Row Row Row Your Boat

I can't believe I didn't post this video earlier!  It was taken at the end of July.  It shows Kellan saying "row row row" (about 19 secs into the video) - as in "row row row your boat", which is one of his favorite songs.  It takes a bit of prompting (you'll probably hear me whisper-singing the first line of the song, trying to get him to say it).

And yes, his face is covered in avocado. :-)

August Update

Usually I'm much better at updating the blog, but it's been a busy month!  Here are a few updates on K-Man:

Last June, Kellan only had one tooth.  On the bottom, if you recall.  All of a sudden (and all at once), he now has seven.  It's not often that we get a glimpse of his upper teeth, but this photo captures most of his pearly whites.

Kellan's still working hard at perfecting how to walk.  He's making many more attempts on his own and is falling less and less.  Once he walks more often and confidently, he'll be able to move to the next room at daycare with the 1 and 2 year olds (they are called the "Honeybees").  He's already eating the Honeybees' food during the day, made the transition to whole milk from formula, and is down to one nap a day (for the most part).  They've done a great job at helping Kellan's development, and it's clear he's learning and soaking up new things every day.

He's become almost obsessed with pointing, sometimes he does it and doesn't even know what he's pointing at (so then he tries to find something... it's pretty cute).  He has a few words, but does not enunciate them very well yet.  He understands quite a bit, though.  And that includes knowing how to push our buttons (Mommy's, at least), as he simply loves to disobey.  He'll start to do something that we've told him "no" about several times, while turning to look at us... waiting for us to say "no" again... then laugh hysterically when we try to stop him.  It's almost difficult to keep a straight face, it's so obviously purposeful. :-)

I'm constantly amazed at how quickly he's learning and developing.  It's exciting to watch his mind grow and see how he learns to process things.  I'm really looking forward to being able to have actual conversations with him and watch his personality develop.

A quick pic of Kellan in my sunglasses - he still loves accessories!

Step By Step

Kellan's walking!  Pretty decent distances, too.  Here's a video we captured on the lawn last night.  Woohoo!
Except for the face plant at the end, not to shabby for a first-time walker, right?

Outdoor Photo Shoot

We've finally been getting nice enough weather to spend more time outside on the deck.  The other day, Kellan was looking particularly cute, so I decided to snap a few shots.

What? You wanna piece of me?

Happy toddler!!

Kellan's been doing this "thing" lately with his hand - a silly wave of sorts.  It cracks him up, so... whatever makes you happy, Kellan. :-)

Kellan Hearts Avocado

We're so pleased that Kellan loves his vegetables, though we'd be happy if he liked a few fruits as well (we're working on it).  His favorite food, however, is technically a fruit.  I'm speaking, of course, about avocado.

He takes fistfuls of avocado at a time.

Then he just smashes it in - most of which ends up in his mouth, but some ends up on his face.

An avocado mask now and then is good for the skin, right?

Walking Practice

Kellan's been hard at work learning how to walk.  Daddy has been practicing with him in the evening (when possible) on the grass, though Kellan gets lots of it at daycare, too.

This shows Daddy letting go of Kellan, and...
...Kellan took 5 or 6 steps on his own towards Mommy!  It's his biggest streak so far.
He's so excited to get moving!

First Haircut

On Saturday, Mommy and Daddy took Kellan to get his first haircut.  We went to "Li'l Klippers" at Wallingford Center.  They specialize in children's cuts, and afterwards we received a little card memorializing the event with a description of Kellan's reactions and a lock of his hair.  Below is an almost blow-by-blow account of the haircut.

This is the first pre-haircut picture we took.  As you can see, the chairs are pretty cute (Kellan got the airplane chair), and he got to wear a big kid's smock.

One last look at his curls (it was looking rather mullet-esque).

The first cry of "what the heck is going on?"

Susan (the stylist) thought maybe showing Kellan what she was using might ease his fears...

...she was wrong.

Eventually we found that the only way to get it done was to distract Kellan with toys (which they had loads of at the salon).

We still had our moments of fussing, however.

This is the first picture taken with Mommy's iPhone, as the batteries ran out on our camera (so, sorry for the bad quality of the remaing pics).

By the end, Kellan seemed to be pretty pleased with his new 'do.

Here's another look at the cut...

...and one more for good measure.  Doesn't he look older?

On a totally random side note, Mommy couldn't help but notice how much the stylist, Susan, looked like Peg Bundy from "Married with Children" (minus the oversized hair).  Judge for yourself:

Susan

Peg Bundy

Eerie, right??
